Bowling Night:
The first Sunday night in February we take over Iroquois Lanes in the village of Canajoharie from 5-7pm for a fun night of bowling for the whole family. We invite anyone and everyone to join us and games and shoes are provided at no charge. We meet new friends each year at this event.
Easter at Cornerstone:
Easter is a very special season at Cornerstone and we start with a special service at 7pm on Good Friday where we remember the reason for this holiday and what our salvation truly cost. We have an 8am “sunrise” worship service on Easter morning to celebrate the resurrection. Then we host a free light brunch before our 10am service. Easter is always a joyful morning as we celebrate that HE IS RISEN!
Mother’s Day:
We love mom’s here at Cornerstone and we love treating our mom to a special day. We start with recognition and a special gift during our 10am service and then we dismiss to a fabulous brunch feast prepared and served by the men and teens of Cornerstone who want to make this day great for their wives, moms and all the ladies of the church. This is open to the public and FREE to attend.
Ames Old Home Days:
We will have a booth and a float in the parade during Ames Old Home Days the 2nd weekend in June each year. Stop out to interact with us, and play some free games for the kids. Watch for our float in the parade.
First Responders BBQ:
Each June we invite local fire departments within a 7 mile radius of our church as well as our local police department to a First Responders Night. We provide a night of great food (chicken BBQ) and fun and lots of amazing door prizes. Stewarts donates Ice Cream for our event each year and the event continues to grow. If you are part of a local fire department you should receive invitations at your monthly meetings in May.
Father’s Day/Bring a Friend Day:
Every Father’s Day we plan a special day where we hold our services outside in the parking lot (bring a chair and perhaps a pop-up for shade) we have music, special testimonies from people in our church telling their stories and a special gift for dads. Following the service we host a FREE chicken BBQ for the community, all are welcome. It has grown to be a large event each year with more coming annually. Invite your dad, invite your friends, invite everyone! It is always a great time and an easy way to treat your dad!
Church in the Park & Community Picnic:
Each summer we choose a Sunday to host our church services down in the park behind the museum in Ames. Following the fun outdoor service with live music and message we serve hot dogs and hamburgers and provide fun games including a bounce house. This is open to the entire comuunity and surrounding communities. In 2026 this will be held on Sunday August 2nd with the service starting at 10:30am. Bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. Feel free to bring a pop up for shade if desired. The picnic will start when the service ends at approx 11:30am.
Canajoharie Street Fair:
Find our booth at the Canajoharie Street Fair the 2nd Saturday in September each year. We have fun games for the kids and make and hand out free balloon animals. We enjoy the opportunity to interact with the community and share information about us and our upcoming events. We also will have a float in the parade each year.
Fall Festival:
The first Sunday in October we kick off our Family Night Series with an outdoor festival. This grows larger each year and features – Apple Cider Pressing, Apple Cider Donuts, Fried Dough, Pumpkin Carving, Hayrides, Horseback Rides, Games, Hot Dogs, Smores, Live Music and more! It goes from 5-7pm and the best part is it is totally FREE! Invite your friends, neighbors, schoolmates, invite everyone!
Halloween Outreach:
Find us at 630 Latimer Hill Road with a campfire, glow necklaces, candy, cider donuts and hot cider as we interact with kids and parents who are trick or treating in Ames.
Volleyball Tournament:
In November we host a volleyball tournament on a Saturday afternoon/evening and welcome teams and individuals to join us for this free double elimination event. We start the day with a fun family game with our younger kids and their families so they get to join in the fun before the serious competition begins. There is no fee to enter and individuals will be added to teams that form on the fly. We take a break around 5pm and serve pizza and drinks before continuing the games. This has been a fun night for the last few years and we look to continue to grow each year!
Christmas Tree Lighting & Sing Around the Tree:
The first Sunday in December we help kick off Christmas in Ames by gathering around the tree in from of the museum on Latimer Hill Road and we sing a few Christmas Carols and light up the tree for the season. We then move back to the firehall where it is a bit warmer for refreshments, sandwiches and cookies with hot cider and hot cocoa. It is a fun way to kick off the Christmas season and we will have more information about all the events for Christmas at Cornerstone.
